Hungarian or Slovak salaries - where will you earn more in 2025?
According to June 2025 data, the average gross full-time wage in Hungary is HUF 704 400 (about EUR 1 790), and the average net wage is HUF 484 200 (about EUR 1 230). In Slovakia, the average gross wage in the second quarter of 2025 is EUR 1 654 (around HUF 650 000), with a net average of around EUR 1 250-1 300 (around HUF 490-510 000). Sectoral and regional differences are significant in both countries.

According to the latest data from the Slovak Statistical Office (SSÚ), in the second quarter of 2025 the average wage in Slovakia reached €1,654, which is 8.8% higher in nominal terms compared to the same period last year. Taking inflation into account, real wages rose by 4.5%, with all major economic sectors seeing pay rises, vg.hu reports.
The highest average salary was recorded in the financial and insurance sector, at €2,827 (about £1,115,000) a month, while the average salary for workers in the IT sector was €2,664 (about £1,047,000), while in public administration it exceeded €2,000 (about £1,047,000). The lowest wages were recorded in accommodation and food services, at just 950 euros (about 374 000 HUF). (At the official exchange rate of 4 September 2025, 1 euro = 393.30 forints)

Pozsony county stands out from the national average, with an average salary of €1,960 (about HUF 771,000), while the runner-up Eperjes county has only €1,299 (about HUF 511,000). In the other regions, average salaries ranged from €1,629 to €1,960 (about HUF 641,000 to HUF 771,000)
