\"The future will be decided in the classroom\" - ten-point work plan announced by Péter Magyar
Love your country and build your tomorrow - said Péter Magyar, President of the Respect and Freedom Party (Tisza) at the party's 20th August celebrations in Pannonhalma on Wednesday, where he announced the ten-point St Stephen's programme. The aim is to halt depopulation and emigration, strengthen health, education and energy security, and support local communities. According to Péter Magyar, this will be done with concrete resources, deadlines and responsibilities.

In his speech, Péter Magyar stressed that a country stands on strong feet when there is peace in its soul, order in its law, work and dignity in its everyday life.
He said that throughout history, we Hungarians have always stood up, shaken off the dust and started again, because the commandment of St Stephen to build, keep order and remain part of Europe is ingrained in us.
The party president said "Today our population is shrinking, our villages are emptying, our health is more fragile than that of our neighbours. Waiting lists are longer than our patience can bear. Our education is stuck in the middle of the pack, while the future is being decided in classrooms. The water that became our country is now a problem and a scarcity, with droughts, drying lakes and fragile lands. The air that is slowly filling with killing poison.
He added that while all this is happening, "today's power serves only itself, not the nation. From the East comes the whisper that promises it is easier to bargain than to stand still.".
He stressed that the Hungarian way has never been the easy way. The peace of Pannonhalma is not an escape from reality, but a guide. To whomever is given the responsibility of governance, a country gives trust, on loan, he said, adding that it is with this knowledge that we must act together. Today, a functioning Hungary is a common cause for all of us, he said.
Peter Magyar stressed that the Szent István programme is not being announced by the party for four years, but for a generation, "looking as far ahead as possible".
"Let's say in ten points what we are committing ourselves to, backed up by knowledge, work, responsibility and unity", he said.

- According to the first point of the programme, the population decline will be halted by 2030 and the aim is to increase the Hungarian population to over 10 million again by 2050. This is a programme for life, he said.
- The second point is to raise life expectancy at birth in Hungary to at least 80 years by 2035. To achieve this, prevention, clean air, strong primary care, well-paid professionals and decent hospitals are important. Péter Magyar said it is our job to build a system that reduces waiting lists and makes patient care safer.
- The third point is to stop mass emigration by 2030 and launch the Castle Your Country programme. This will increase the number of returnees by 200,000 in 8 years.
- The fourth point is that the Tisza government will provide 1 billion forints per ten villages for community development, not decided from the centre but locally.
- The fifth point is that a 21st century superhospital will be built in each region, and district clinics and ambulance services will be strengthened.
- The sixth point is that by 2035, Hungary will be back at the top of Central Europe in education. As Péter Magyar put it, teachers are not the enemy, but nation-builders.
- The seventh point is that by 2020 the share of renewable energy will be doubled and by 2030 Russian energy dependence will be eliminated. The party leader says this is true national sovereignty.
- The eighth point is to address the critical drought situation immediately.
- And the ninth point says that by 2030, air pollution will be brought below the health limit for 90% of the year.
- The tenth point of the St Stephen's Agenda is to restore the freedom, independence, powers and resources of local governments.
Peter Magyar said that these ten points are a work plan and that each point is accompanied by resources, deadlines and responsibilities.
"The implementation of the programme will be publicly monitored on a quarterly basis from the first day of the formation of the Tisza government, he said.
He stressed that if these ten points are implemented, Hungary will not only survive, but also prosper, and will not only have a past, but also a future in Europe.
Zoltán Tisza Party vice-president and MEP Zoltán Tarr said in his opening speech that the party will launch its reconciliation programme after the elections, which aims on the one hand to confront the destruction of the past decade and a half, revealing who and in what way they have done something against the country and the community. On the other hand, to help and support families and communities, so that together we can find what it means to live in peace,.
