\"Three cigarette breaks an hour and a masseur to be\" - it's hard to find seasonal workers at Lake Balaton
While summer is only just beginning, the Balaton hospitality industry is already facing a labour crisis, with chefs and waiters asking for millions in salaries, lake-view accommodation and extra benefits - often without experience. Chefs say demand has dried up, while work ethic and skills are weakening.

It's only the beginning of the season, but prices at Lake Balaton are already skyrocketing - especially when it comes to the monthly wages of skilled workers, sonline.hu reports. The Somogy County news portal interviewed several chefs and employers. It is not uncommon for applicants to ask for accommodation, full board and a room with a view of the lake. Jenő Rácz, a star chef, shared a chef candidate's one million euro salary request in an Instagram story. One by one, employers are reporting unrealistic expectations, with some even stating in advance what they are willing to do, for how much and when. According to Péter Makkos (Makkos Restaurant), it is difficult to find people for seasonal jobs, as foreign employers already employ workers in the summer.
Tamás Németh (Fuel by Full Gas) said that many young people want to star without basic knowledge, no respect, no communication. He said education does not prepare people for real work. Gergely Tóth (CE Plaza Hotel) says that seasonal jobs are a temporary drain on labour, but you cannot offer competitive wages for three months in the long term. According to Gabriella Szikra (Konyhám 365), applicants are asking for 40-50 thousand forints a day, and many think that with the job comes a holiday. But if you want to work at Lake Balaton, you really have to work.
