According to data from the National Employment Service, 232,504 job seekers were registered in March, a decrease of nearly 4 thousand compared to the same period last year, the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) pointed out on Wednesday.The number of registered job seekers in March has not been so low since the system change, but compared to the end of 2024, an increase of more than 10 thousand people can be observed.
In the statement, Sándor Czomba, Minister of State for Employment Policy, noted that the number of registered jobseekers in the month of March was the lowest since the system change.
Hungary is one of the top countries in Europe in terms of employment, with 1 million more people in work today than in 2010, almost 4.7 million, while the average wage has more than tripled and the minimum wage has quadrupled.
The government's aim is to get those who want to work and are able to do so, with the Youth Guarantee Plus scheme for job-seeking and inactive young people under 30 and the Youth Guarantee Plus scheme for people aged 30 and over, also EU-funded. The projects provide jobseekers with wage subsidies, housing and travel allowances. The programmes have already helped more than 34,000 jobseekers to find work, the state secretary said in a statement.

With the SME Capacity Building Support 2.0\ programme, the government can help almost 1,700 people to find jobs, thereby making a significant contribution to maintaining high employment levels, it was announced.
A new labour market programme worth HUF 2 billion has been launched to improve the digital infrastructure of firms, which will help increase the competitiveness of domestic SMEs, their market share, the skills of their employees and the recruitment of new workers.
In addition, the From Public Employment to the Competitive Sector programme was launched at the end of March, which supports the competitive employment of motivated, skilled, willing and able public employees through a job placement allowance.
