Employers can apply again for the Cyclist Friendly label
Applications are open until 30 September.
The Ministry of Construction and Transport and the CTI Hungarian Institute of Transport Science and Logistics are launching the Bicycle Friendly Municipality and Bicycle Friendly Workplace competition again this year, for which municipalities and employers can apply with their improvements and awareness-raising efforts implemented last year, the ministry announced in a statement on Thursday.
Applications can be submitted until 30 September, with the results to be announced in November. Cycling is not only a leisure activity but a key tool for greening transport. It helps to reduce carbon emissions, air and noise pollution, traffic congestion and parking difficulties," explained the Ministry.
In recent years, the potential for cycling in Hungary has steadily improved, and future plans point towards greener and more sustainable transport. The goal is to make cycling more widespread for commuting to work and for a healthy lifestyle, they continued. Municipalities and workplaces play a key role in promoting cycling by creating a cycling-friendly environment that provides safe and comfortable cycling conditions and by encouraging cycling through the construction of cycle paths and the organisation of cycling programmes. They recalled that the Ministry of Transport launched the Cycling Friendly Municipalities and Cycling Friendly Workplaces competition in 2006 with the aim of opening up new opportunities for promoting cycling through the concerted efforts of decision-makers and city leaders, by recognising positive examples and forward-looking solutions and making them widely known. Currently eleven municipalities and ten companies or public institutions are eligible for the Cycling Friendly label, and the new call will give others the opportunity to apply with their cycling improvements and awareness-raising efforts from the previous year.
The new call will also give the opportunity to others to apply with their cycling improvements and awareness-raising efforts from the previous year.
The aim of the 16th edition of the Cycling Friendly Municipalities and Cycling Friendly Workplaces competition is to identify and process positive cycling-friendly examples and solutions implemented by municipalities and workplaces in 2023, and to pass them on as examples and reward systemic improvements. To be awarded the \"Cyclist Friendly\" award, applicants must have taken significant steps to make their environment safer and more environmentally friendly and set a positive example for others to follow," said ÉKM. The \"Cyclist Friendly\" award is open to municipalities, towns, cities, county councils and metropolitan districts. Multinational companies, large companies, small and medium-sized enterprises and public institutions can compete. Entries can be submitted electronically until 30 September 2024 via the online application interface https://www.kti.hu/kbt-kbm/ on the website of CTI Nonprofit Ltd., where the detailed call for applications can also be found, the ÉKM said.
