Two-thirds of workers in Slovakia barely earn enough to cover their wages, with many working overtime
People under 25 are the least satisfied with their jobs.
For two-thirds of workers in Slovakia, getting paid from paycheck to paycheck is a serious problem, with the highest proportion of workers in the Central Slovakia region experiencing such difficulties, according to a survey by Alma Career, the results of which were reported by the Slovak public news agency TASR on Tuesday.
A survey of more than 1,000 respondents this spring found that 59 percent of workers in Slovakia have difficulty getting from income to salary, and 21 percent of them find it a very serious problem. The data show that the majority of workers in Slovakia are dissatisfied with their jobs, and only 37 percent are satisfied with their work. The highest proportion of those dissatisfied with their jobs were among those aged under 25.
In the poll, the majority of workers in Slovakia, 63 percent, said they do more work than their job title and job description.
The survey data show that a large proportion of workers regularly work overtime because of problems caused by their low incomes. 45 percent of workers in Slovakia work overtime regularly and 37 percent occasionally. For more than a third of those surveyed, the surplus from overtime constitutes a significant part of their income.
