Never before have so many Hungarians worked in Austria
Hungary is now the largest provider of foreign labour to our western neighbour.
The VG has looked at the latest figures from the Austrian social insurance agency Österreichische Sozialversicherung on the number of foreigners working in Austria. The figures only take into account registered workers in full-time employment. According to the June figures, Hungarians provide the largest number of foreign workers in Austria. In June, a total of 1,020,781 foreigners worked for the sons-in-law, compared with "only" 1,003,736 in May.
The figures also show that more foreigners have never worked for Austrians this year and that the number of foreign workers in the country has increased by 70,000 in two years.
In June, 127,865 Hungarians were working in our western neighbour, putting us in first place for foreign workers, with Germany a close second at 127,518. The 127,865 Hungarians is a new record, and never before have so many Hungarian citizens worked in Austria.
