We are laggards: hardly any AI is used and learned in the workplace

While artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly embedded in everyday work around the world, Hungary is lagging behind. According to recent research, AI is hardly used in the workplace in Hungary, while public confidence is surprisingly high - in other words, the potential is there, but the practice is lacking, according to a press release by GKI Gazdaságkutató Zrt.

Mennyire bíznak az emberek az AI-ban?-

In July, GKI conducted a survey among a representative sample of 1,000 people on the uptake of artificial intelligence (AI) among the general public.

How much do people trust AI?

Artificial intelligence is a popular topic of conversation at home and at work. Some people trust the content it produces (22%), but more people are sceptical (36%), with a majority in the middle (42%).

It's interesting that more trust in AI is shown by those who use it more often.Of course, the correlation here is mutual: why would someone use AI if they otherwise consider it untrustworthy? In any case, as AI develops and the user base expands, so too should society's trust.

What do the demographics show?

There is only one demographic group that is more likely to trust AI than not: students. A slightly negative image lives in the minds of active workers, and retirees are typically skeptical. In general, the older someone is, the less trusting they are of AI,with men slightly more distrustful than women.

We're a laggard: hardly using and learning AI at workFormatted from GKI survey. Note: the responses received have been weighted on a scale from -100 to 100, where -100 indicates a complete lack of trust, 0 indicates medium trust and 100 indicates very high trust.

International outlook - we are lagging behind but have great potential

According to research by KPMG and the University of Melbourne, Hungary ranks seventh from bottom in regular AI use, third from bottom in frequency of use in the workplace and last in the proportion of people taking AI training, out of 47 countries surveyed. Despite this, Hungarians are more confident than average in AI.

There is therefore a lot of potential for the use of AI in Hungary. The existence of this trust provides a good basis for companies, educational institutions and government programmes to target support for AI-related skills development, awareness and practical applications.
